Lee Roy Selmon's past combines the merits of family sports scholarship with social service. He is the youngest child of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. Both raised him on their property in Eufala. Second, football was his favorite sport. He was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. The trio made All-America. The year was 1973. Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the leading lineman of the nation. In his three years as an offensive lineman, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. On his third scholarship, he was named the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer every week while in college. Then he settled in Tampa after graduation, and played in the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and was three-times all-pro. His career in business began. The year 1988 was the first time he was working as an Account Relation Manager for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's the top 10 most promising young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in his height and weighed 256 lbs at the time he played in college. He played for the 1975 team. In 1993, he joined the University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. His parents, Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
